Unified Athletics Inducted Into Hall of Fame in Special Ceremony

The Northport High School Athletic Hall of Fame inducted the Unified Athletics program into the Hall of Fame in a special ceremony on May 21, 2026. Celebrating its 10th year of existence, the program features the highly successful Basketball, Bowling and Sparkle Squads. As part of the ceremony, the Hall of Fame presented a $500 donation to the program. The Unified Athletics program operates under a "Choose to Include" philosophy, promoting social inclusion, friendship, and athletic competition. The program pairs students with and without various disabilities to train and compete as teammates. The Unified Basketball team, now in its 10th season, pairs students for competitive play, and is supported by the Sparkle Squad, which leads halftime pep rallies and spirit events. The Unified Bowling squad, with nearly 40 student-athletes, routinely fields undefeated squads in Suffolk County athletics. Additionally, the Unified Athletes participate in the Suffolk County Unified Athletics Summit, attending workshops to foster inclusion and develop new ideas to bring back to their school.
